"Nature lover and pipetting enthusiast"

Ioanna was born in Greece and did her BSc. in Biology at the University of Patras. Right after she moved to Germany to do her master's degree in Molecular Biosciences at the University of Heidelberg with a major in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology. Right now, Ioanna is a PhD student at Stephan Neuhauss' lab, as part of the Molecular Life Sciences PhD program at the University of Zurich. She is particularly interested in molecular biology and evolution, and she is currently working on the retinoid metabolism of the vertebrate eye.

Ioanna enjoys exercising, hiking and travelling. She loves (Greek) summer and Christmas. If she was not a biologist, she would have probably become a cook.

Current: Ph.D. candidate in Stephan Neuhauss’ lab, Institute of Molecular Life Sciences, University of Zurich;

Life Science Zurich Graduate School – Molecular life sciences Ph.D. program

2021: MSc. in Molecular Biosciences- Major: Developmental and Stem Cell Biology, University of Heidelberg, Germany

2018: BSc. in Biology, University of Patras, Greece

Ioanna's research interests are:

  • Cone photoreception
  • Circadian oscillations in the retina
  • Retinoid metabolism
  • Evolution of vertebrate vision
