Research

The Hengartner lab uses the nematode C. elegans as a model organism to understand basic biological processes. Because such processes tend to be conserved through evolution, we believe that many of the molecular mechanisms that we identify in C. elegans also function in humans - a prediction that we test directly whenever possible by transferring knowledge gained in our worm studies back to mammalian systems.
