Biography
Virginie Uhlmann obtained her MSc in Bioengineering, and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland). Since 2024, she is Assistant Professor in Bioimaging and Data Analysis in the Department of Molecular Life Sciences and leads the BioVisionCenter at the University of Zurich (Switzerland). She has also been a Research Group Leader at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI, Cambridge, UK) since 2018. Her main research interest is quantitative bioimage analysis, with a focus in approximation theory, machine learning, and computational geometry. Aside from research, she is contributing to various international initiatives promoting the democratization of bioimage analysis and interdisciplinarity approaches to life science research.
When she is not sciencing, Virginie is most likely doing something that involves mountains, birds, or both.
