Charles Weissmann Lecture

The Charles Weissmann Lecture was established in 2024 by the Department of Molecular Life Sciences at the University of Zurich. The intention is to honour the contributions Charles Weissmann (1931 - 2025) made to science. He was a Hungarian-Swiss molecular biologist renowned for cloning interferon, developing reverse genetics, and providing key evidence that prion protein misfolding causes diseases like Creutzfeldt-Jakob. He was also the founder and director of the Department for Molecular Biology.Read more 

It is the purpose of the Charles Weissmann Lecture to annually invite an outstanding researcher to present a scientific lecture at the University of Zurich, including Nobel Prize winners in the fields of chemistry and molecular life sciences.

The first Charles Weissmann Lecture took place in the ceremonial aula at the University of Zurich, with Charles Weissmann himself attending with his family.
