Yuan was born in China. After obtaining her bachelor's degree in biology, she joined the Gilmour lab in May 2022 and completed her Master's degree in the downstream effectors of FGFR: Erk/MAPK (Sos) and RhoA (ARHGEF25) in zebrafish bi-layered epidermis.

In her free time, Yuan likes to read books, cuddle cats, and feed the swans at the lake of Zurich.
