Robert was born in Bern, Switzerland and did his Bachelors and Masters degree at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ). During his Master thesis he worked in the Lab of Prof. Yves Barral on the supramolecular organization of the Kar9 protein and its role in Kar9-Myo2 interaction in S. cerevisiae. Additionally, during an internship in the course of his Masters degree, he worked in the Lab of Prof. Panagiotis Anastasiadis at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida on the role of Rac1 and PLEKHA7 in p120ctn adhesion function. Robert joined the Gilmour lab in 2019 as a PhD student and is studying how cell shape feeds back on cell fate, using optogenetic tools to precisely modulate the shape of cells and tissues with light.
